soft monolith

Dual-stage casting was used to create a voronoi-based masonry wall: Each colored gypsum-stone is formed by pressure from its neighbors and its unique position within the formwork.

Once the slurry is mixed and dyed in small batches, it’s poured into balloons for the first stage of casting.

After the gypsum is cured, balloons are removed and each stone is placed back in its original position for the second stage of casting. Then the formwork is re-sealed and a hot wax mortar is added.
